Due Monday, January 12- Read and annotate Scott Russel Sanders's "Under the Influence." Look for sentences that really stand out to you as having a powerful effect. Find examples of narration, description and exposition/reflection.
Due Day 2 - Read and annotate Annie Dillard's "Terwilliger Bunts One." Again, we're looking for examples of effective writing. Highlight examples of narration, description and exposition/reflection.
- In class we'll read one more personal essay together.
Due Thursday, January 15- Compose a discovery draft of your own personal essay: Voyageur of the Mind. You're writing at this stage to figure out what's important or meaningful to you. Be prepared to toss most of what you write at this stage so that you can expand on one key moment or idea over the coming days. Come to class with two full pages to share with a group of peer editors.
Due Friday, January 16- First draft due. You should take into account the feedback you hear from your peers. Extend the thinking of the strongest parts as you search for something of value. The first draft should be about 750 words that you can share with a group of peer editors.
Due Day 2, January 20 or 21.
